On November 20, information from Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital said that the hospital had just successfully treated a patient who was bitten by a dog in the genitals.
Previously, on the night of November 3, Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital received a 7-year-old boy who was admitted with pain and heavy bleeding in the penis area, a wound on the penis shaft that was swollen, and a 4x3 cm hematoma.
According to the patient's family, the child was playing at home when the family dog (weighing 25kg) bit him in the genitals. Immediately after, the family treated him with a bandage to stop the bleeding and quickly transferred him to Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital.
Upon admitting the patient, the doctors examined and performed paraclinical tests with the diagnosis: open wound on the penis, wound on the urethra. After that, the patient completed the procedure for emergency surgery at dawn on November 4.
Mr. Luu Tien Dung - Deputy Head of the Department of Urology, who directly performed the surgery on the child patient, said that as soon as the patient was admitted, realizing that this was a case that needed urgent surgery, the on-duty team immediately gave the patient the necessary instructions, promptly performed surgery on the child, not letting the golden time slip away.
During the surgery, the damage to the corpus cavernosum (erection) and the urethra were found to be broken. The surgical team performed debridement, wound cleaning, urethral anastomosis, erection restoration, and penile skin reconstruction surgery.
After surgery, the patient continued to be monitored and cared for in the Urology Department. After 17 days of treatment, the patient's health was stable and he was discharged from the hospital.
