In less than 24 hours of operation, Bach Mai Hospital in Ninh Binh has continuously successfully treated many severe cases.

The journey to keep heartbeats in the homeland

In just one afternoon, Bach Mai Hospital in Ninh Binh campus successfully performed 5 complex cardiovascular intervention cases, affirming the ability to deploy high technology right from the early days of operation, and at the same time opening up opportunities for people to access end-line medical services right in the locality.

Among them, there was an 82-year-old patient with acute coronary syndrome, many underlying diseases and had previously placed a coronary artery stent. After a multi-specialized consultation, the team used intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) to determine the reestenosis in the old stent and chose treatment with drug-coated diaphragm (DCB), helping to re-circulate the bloodstream without needing to place an additional stent, reducing the risk of complications.

At the same time, a patient with acute non-ST elevated myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) and three other cases of coronary artery disease were also intervened with IVUS and placed new generation drug-coated stents, promptly restoring heart-feeding blood flow.

According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Tuan Tung, Deputy Director of Bach Mai Hospital, the entire DSA, IVUS system and resuscitation equipment at Ninh Binh facility are synchronously invested, equivalent to the Hanoi facility, creating conditions for immediate deployment of specialized techniques.

Dr. Nguyen Quoc Thai, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Heart Institute, said that the multi-specialized coordination and modern equipment system help better control risks, and patients are treated right in their locality, without having to be transferred to Hanoi.

At the end of the working day, all 5 patients passed the critical stage, and their vital signs were stable.

The first cry of birth at Bach Mai Hospital, Ninh Binh facility

The 3.9kg baby boy cried to greet the world healthy, marking the first birth at Bach Mai Hospital, Ninh Binh facility. This is not only the happiness of a family but also a meaningful milestone in the early days of the hospital's operation.

On the afternoon of June 28, after a series of emergency cases, surgeries and high-tech interventions were successfully performed, the Obstetrics Department welcomed the first baby safely at the hospital.

The 29-year-old pregnant woman, full 40 weeks pregnant and giving birth to her fourth child, was hospitalized with signs of labor. After examination, necessary tests and close monitoring, the team decided to give the pregnant woman a natural birth.

At 3:55 pm on June 28, a baby boy weighing 3.9kg was born healthy, rosy and skin-to-skin with his mother immediately after birth.

According to doctors, although the fetus has a large weight, the birth still took place smoothly thanks to close monitoring of labor and the smooth coordination of the obstetrics team. Currently, the health of both mother and baby is stable.

Applying DSA nodulation technique to emergency patient with severe coughing up blood

For the first time, the bronchial artery nodulation technique under the guidance of the digital background scanning (DSA) system was deployed at Bach Mai Hospital in Ninh Binh to successfully resuscitate a patient with severe coughing up blood. This success helped the patient to be treated right in the locality, without having to be transferred to another hospital in critical condition.

On June 28, the Institute of Electro-optical Diagnosis and Intervention received patient Nguyen Xuan H (63 years old) suffering from continuous coughing up blood. The patient has a history of pulmonary tuberculosis and alcohol abuse for many years. The results of multiple-slice CT scan (MSCT) of the chest determined that the right bronchial artery was abnormally dilated, which was the cause of bleeding.

After consultation, the patient was immediately transferred to the intervention room. Under the guidance of the DSA system, the team delivered a microtubule to the damaged artery branch and used biopolymer to block the blood vessel. After intervention, the coughing up blood was completely controlled, and the respiratory and hemodynamic indicators were stable.

According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Xuan Co, Director of Bach Mai Hospital, the ultimate goal of all investment and technology transfer is to help people access high-quality medical services right where they live.

We bring modern equipment, send leading experts to work directly at the Ninh Binh facility so that people do not have to travel far but are still treated with the most advanced techniques. When patients are treated right at home, reducing costs, time and transfer pressure, that is the greatest meaning of this model," Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Xuan Co emphasized.
