On the afternoon of May 27, Doctor Chung Tan Dinh - Director of Soc Trang Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital - said that the unit had just successfully treated a case of a snake bite in critical condition.
The victim was H.N.K (13 years old), residing in Vinh Chau town.
According to the family, on May 21, while K was playing in the house, a snake suddenly brought a cow in and bit him in the heel. Hearing K scream, the family promptly discovered and killed the snake and quickly took him to the hospital for emergency care.
At the time of admission, the child showed signs of difficulty speaking, numbness in the limbs, no swelling in the bite, no bleeding. However, after that, he became seriously ill quickly, showing signs of drowsiness and respiratory failure.
Doctors quickly provided respiratory support, placed arterial catheters for continuous blood monitoring, and used anti-terrestal snake venom serum to neutralize the toxins.
"The patient's family handled the situation very calmly, bringing the snake's body to the hospital. Thanks to timely emergency care, K has overcome the critical condition and was discharged from the hospital today, Dr. Dinh informed.
