On April 24, Quang Tri Provincial General Hospital said that it had just successfully operated on a patient with rare cleft bladder - zigzag colon.
The male patient (74 years old, residing in Nam Cua Viet commune) was hospitalized with abnormal symptoms such as urinating stools, having gas, prolonged painful urination. Through examination and tests such as ultrasound, computed tomography, and endoscopy, doctors determined that there was an abnormal leak between the bladder and the zigzag colon.
This is a rare and dangerous disease that can cause recurrent urinary tract infections, chronic cystitis, pyelonephritis, and even sepsis if not treated promptly.
The patient was indicated for laparoscopic surgery. During the surgery, the team recorded that the zigzag colon was tightly attached to the bladder, the inflammatory tissue was thick and difficult to dissect. After treatment, doctors discovered a leakage of about 0.5cm, proceeded to close the bladder and cut the pathological colon segment, restoring digestive circulation.

After 6 days, the patient recovered well, walked and ate normally, no longer had symptoms of painful urination, and urine was clear.
According to the hospital, this is a complex surgery, requiring high expertise and close coordination. The successful result contributes to affirming the capacity to deploy specialized surgical techniques in the locality.
