Saigon General Hospital said that it had just successfully operated on and removed a foreign object from the soles of Mr. D.T.P (45 years old, residing in Nha Be commune, Ho Chi Minh City).
According to the patient, on May 28, on his way to his student's house to attend a class, while passing through Cay Go roundabout, Mr. D.T.P suddenly collided with a car door that had just been opened. The strong collision injured and caused a large swelling in his right foot. He was taken to a nearby medical facility for first aid, bandage and then returned home.
However, after returning, the wound on the instep of his right foot became more and more serious: swelling, redness, pus, leakage, accompanied by prolonged pain. He was almost unable to walk and had to stop teaching. During this time, Mr. P. bought medicine to take and replaced the wound bandage at home, but the condition did not improve.
Sharing about this time, Mr. P. said: "I thought it was just a soft wound, taking medicine and changing the bandage would gradually recover. But for more than 2 months, my feet became increasingly painful, red, and pustuous, making me exhausted and unable to go to work.
On August 20, 2025, unable to bear it any longer, Mr. P. went to Saigon General Hospital (Ben Thanh Ward, Ho Chi Minh City). At the Orthopedic Trauma - burns department, doctors examined, X-rayed and discovered a foreign object deep in the instep of the right foot, and prescribed immediate surgery.
Dr. CKII Tran Hoa, Head of the Orthopedic Trauma - burns Department, Saigon General Hospital, said: "When the patient arrived, we noticed that the infection wound had long-term healing, so we immediately thought about the possibility of foreign bodies. After surgery, we removed a hard piece of plastic about 1 cm x 0.8 cm in size. This is the reason why the wound has not recovered for a long time, causing red, swollen, pus-red and painful pain over time".
After only 5 days of surgery, the wound was dry, the swelling was reduced, the patient could walk and was expected to be discharged soon.
From this case, Dr. CKII Tran Hoa recommends: When injured, if the wound is swollen, painful, and the pustules are long-term healthy, patients need to immediately go to a higher-level medical facility for examination and accurate diagnosis. Patients should absolutely not arbitrarily change the bandage, self-treat at home or buy medicine to take, because this can make the condition worse, prolong the infection, and even endanger their lives".
