On January 28, Quang Binh Friendship Hospital (Quang Tri province) said that the unit had just received and successfully treated a case of a metal foreign object that had existed for a long time in the amniotic sac, causing a persistent pain lasting for 11 years for the patient.
Patient T.T.H (40 years old, residing in Dong Trach commune, Quang Tri province) came for examination in a state of occasional sharp pain in the episiotomy, causing anxiety and affecting daily life.
Through medical history exploitation, the patient said that she gave birth in 2015 and was sewn the episiotomy. At that time, the doctor announced a broken sewing needle but no foreign object was found.
At Quang Binh Friendship Hospital, after clinical examination, doctors prescribed paraclinical procedures including pelvic X-rays and vaginal ultrasound. The results recorded a metal foreign object located in the episiotopian area.
The patient was diagnosed with an endometrial foreign object, about 15mm in size. After inter-departmental consultation, doctors intervened to remove the foreign object. The foreign object was identified as a sewing needle, located at the 7 o'clock position in the endometrium.
The intervention took place safely, the foreign object was successfully removed. After the procedure, the suture wound was dry, well-composed, and not swollen or painful. Currently, the patient's health is stable, the acute pain symptoms in the amniotic sac have stopped, and the patient's psychology has been relieved after many years of anxiety.
Specialist doctors recommend that when there are abnormal prolonged pain symptoms after surgery or procedures, patients need to go to specialized medical facilities early for examination and timely check-up, to avoid foreign objects existing for a long time, affecting health and quality of life.
