On the morning of June 16, the Lam Dong Department of Health issued an urgent official dispatch requesting health units and local authorities to strengthen control measures to prevent the risk of hand, foot and mouth disease outbreaks on a large scale.
According to statistics as of June 15, the whole province recorded 2,265 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease, an increase of 1,510 cases, equivalent to 176.6% compared to the same period in 2025.
Notably, the hand, foot and mouth disease epidemic is not only increasing rapidly, the locality has recorded 1 death due to the strain of Enterovirus 71 (EV71) and an outbreak appeared in Toa Cat village, Ta Nang commune.
This is a virus strain that can spread quickly, easily cause severe complications and high risk of death.
Faced with the complicated developments of the epidemic, the Department of Health requested the Provincial Center for Disease Control to strengthen epidemiological surveillance and closely monitor the situation.
From there, promptly detect and thoroughly handle outbreaks right from the first case.
At the same time, organize professional training, improve the capacity to diagnose, treat and recognize signs of severe change for health officials at all levels.
Medical examination and treatment facilities are required to perform well in admission, diversion, isolation and treatment; prepare sufficient human resources, medicines, supplies and medical equipment to minimize fatalities.
The health sector also coordinates with the education sector to strengthen inspection and guidance on environmental sanitation and disinfection at kindergartens, independent childcare groups and childcare facilities.
The Department of Health requests the People's Committees of communes, wards, and special zones to identify epidemic prevention and control as a key task; mobilize organizations, unions and forces at the grassroots level to participate in propaganda and mobilize people to implement disease prevention measures and protect children's health.
