On May 26, at the press conference in May 2026, representatives of the Center for Disease Control - Dong Thap Provincial Department of Health said that the hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) situation is developing extremely complicatedly with a rapid increase in many localities, especially in urban areas and places with high population density. The number of new cases is continuously increasing sharply, leading to many dangerously severe cases.

According to data from this unit, in April 2026, the whole province recorded 720 cases of TCM, an increase of 38.7% compared to the previous month (519 cases) and an increase of 133.8% compared to the same period in 2025 (308 cases). It is noteworthy that most cases are concentrated in children under 5 years old and 01 death has been recorded. Localities recording the highest number of cases in the month include: Cao Lanh ward, My Ngai ward, Phong My commune, Binh Hang Trung commune, Hoi Cu commune.
Also according to this source, from the beginning of the year to the end of April 2026, Dong Thap province recorded 1,949 cases of TCM, an increase of 124.3% compared to the same period in 2025 (869 cases). Among them, there were 64 cases of severe change from grade 2b and above, accounting for 3.3% of the total number of cases. The incidence rate reached 54 cases/100,000 people, while the target for control for the whole year 2026 is ≤255 cases/100,000 people.
The localities with the highest cumulative number of cases include: Cao Lanh ward, My Ngai ward, Sa Dec ward, Phong My commune, Tan Huong commune.

Faced with this development, the Dong Thap Provincial Health sector recommends that parents with young children, especially children of preschool and kindergarten age, need to be vigilant and proactively implement disease prevention measures: Maintain personal hygiene for children; regularly disinfect toys and household items; limit children's exposure to disease sources. In case children are found to have symptoms such as: fever; mouth ulcers; blisters in the palms of hands and feet, children should be taken to medical facilities for examination and timely treatment to avoid dangerous complications.
