On May 6, leaders of Dien Bien Provincial General Hospital said that the unit had just saved patient V.A. H (21 years old, residing in Na U village, Sam Mun commune, Dien Bien province) after 2 months of intensive treatment.
Previously (March 6), patient V.A. H was transferred to the emergency room at the Provincial General Hospital in a coma after a serious traffic accident occurred in Laos.
Immediately after the accident, the patient fell into a state of loss of consciousness, respiratory failure and was intubated by a medical facility in Laos before being transferred to Vietnam for further treatment.
At the time of admission, the patient was in a coma, had to breathe through an endotracheal tube, many bruises appeared in the chest, and lung ventilation was reduced on both sides.
During treatment, the condition repeatedly became critical. The oxygen saturation index in the blood (SpO2) at times only maintained at 70-80%, directly threatening life.
Because the patient's condition was too severe, the risk of death during transportation was very high, so an intensive on-site treatment plan was chosen.
After 2 months, the patient was monitored continuously 24/24 hours, underwent many rounds of blood filtration, intensive respiratory care and adjusted the appropriate protocol according to each stage of progression.
MSc.BS Duong Van Ninh - Department of Intensive Care and Poison Control - said that this is a case of very severe multiple injuries, with a high risk of death. The treatment process is prolonged and the disease develops complicatedly at many times.
However, thanks to the synchronous coordination between specialties, the efforts of the medical team and the companionship of the family, the patient has recovered positively and is eligible for discharge.
