Doctors at Ho Chi Minh City Eye Hospital have successfully operated on Mr. T.T.D (42 years old, living in Bien Hoa, Dong Nai) who was admitted to the hospital with his right eye feeling swollen, slightly rounded and painful after the injury. Previously, on June 22, Mr. D. said that he had been stabbed in the eye by a neighbor while playing at his friend's house. After first aid at a local hospital, his condition did not improve, so he continued to go to Ho Chi Minh City Eye Hospital for examination.
The CT-Scan imaging diagnostic results showed that: a long foreign object in the eye cavity must go through the jawline, the nasal passages, and touch the left nasal cavity. The bridge expansion must be pressured and severely deformed, with the risk of Per yearning. However, surprisingly, the patient's vision was still quite high at 6/10.
After a joint consultation between ENT and Dental specialists and based on CT scan results, the eyeball image was severely deformed, suspected to be seriously damaged by foreign objects. Accordingly, the team of doctors from the interdisciplinary team agreed on a coordinated surgical plan, including eye survey, removal of the eye foreign body through the nasal cavity and reconstruction of the floor structure and wall in the eye cavity using Titanium networks.
Dr. Bien Thi Cam Van, Deputy Head of the Department of Aesthetic and Neurological Ophthalmology, Ho Chi Minh City Eye Hospital, emphasized: The important thing is to accurately determine the extent of eye damage. If the eyeball is punctured, all operations must be extremely careful not to make the condition worse. If left intact, the entire surgical process must ensure that no further damage is caused. This is the key to preserving vision and restoring facial function for patients".
During the surgery that lasted more than 3 hours, the ophthalmologist team carefully examined the eye cavity, and at the same time, the ENT team opened the nasal barrier, pushed the foreign object through the left nasal cavity to the right, then pulled it out safely. The foreign object is a 6cm long plastic chopstick with a diameter of 0.5cm.
After removing the foreign object, the eyeball is not damaged, the entire herniated tissue from the jawline is pushed back into the eye branch. Doctors patch the floor and walls in the eye cavity with titanium, ensuring that the eye sector structure is able to recover to the correct function.
Currently, patient T.T.D is in a stable condition, without any post-operative complications. According to doctors, this is one of the rare similar cases that were treated at the City Children's Hospital 3 years ago.
The case also opens up opportunities to develop endoscopic eye drops at Ho Chi Minh City Eye Hospital in the future such as floor lining, eye drops or eye drops by endoscopy - the specialized direction that the Department of Aesthetic Surgery - Neurology of Ophthalmology is pursuing.
