Taking place continuously for 10 days, from February 27 to March 8, 2026 in many locations in the capital Hanoi, the Red Spring Festival continues to affirm the spread of a voluntary blood donation program of the largest scale in the country.
First organized in 2008, after nearly two decades, the Red Spring Festival has not only stopped at a blood donation campaign event, but has become a familiar rendezvous every beginning of the new year. Tens of thousands of people in the Capital and neighboring provinces have chosen to "open" the new year by giving a drop of blood - a priceless gift for patients.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ha Thanh, Director of the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, said that after the Lunar New Year, blood shortages often occur due to a sharp decrease in the number of donors during the long holiday. Therefore, the Red Spring Festival is considered an important solution to ensure blood supply for emergency and treatment at hospitals. In just the first 5 days, the Red Spring Festival received more than 5,000 units of blood.
The special feature of the Red Spring Festival is not only in its scale, but also in its profound humanistic message. Instead of material gifts, many people choose to donate blood as a way to "give lucky money" at the beginning of the year - sending life, luck and peace.
Each unit of blood received is a "gift of life", crystallized from the spirit of responsibility and compassion. For donors, it is not only an act of sharing, but also a belief in good things in the new year. For patients, it can be an opportunity to continue treatment and return to their families.
The target of 10,000 units of blood in 2026 is not only a number in terms of expertise, but also reflects the aspiration to build a humane society, where blood donation to save people becomes a habit, a beautiful feature in the lifestyle of the community, especially the young generation," Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ha Thanh said.
