Three types of drinks from ginger, garlic and turmeric are being considered a choice to support increased resistance during cold and flu season.

3 types of drinks to help the body stay healthy during flu season

During cold and flu season, many people seek dense herbal and spicy drinks. This trend has appeared widely on social networks, with the belief that just a few sips of ginger, garlic or turmeric can help fight the disease. However, experts affirm that the real effectiveness depends on the dosage, quality of ingredients and how often it is used.

These drinks are not a miracle drug, but if consumed properly, they can support the immune system and reduce inflammation, says Ayla Barmmer, a nutritionist and founder of FullWell Fertility (USA).

Ginger, garlic, turmeric: trio increase natural resistance

Among the immune drinks, ginger juice is the most popular. Ginger contains gingerol compounds that have been shown to have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and digestive support properties. Regularly supplementing ginger helps the body maintain a basic immune barrier, although it cannot completely prevent cold or flu viruses.

Garlic juice is a folk method but also has a scientific basis. Garlic contains allicin, a sulfur compound famous for its antibacterial and anti-viral properties. Studyes show that people who regularly consume garlic have a lower risk of colds than those who do not, Barmmer emphasized. However, she warned that raw garlic can cause stomach discomfort if consumed in excess, so it should be consumed in moderation.

Turmeric juice is the third most often mentioned type. The main ingredient in turmeric is curcumin, a powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. A new study shows that people who supplement curcumin have a faster recovery time from a cold than those who do not, explains Dr. Megan Meyer, an immunologist and nutritionist in the US.

However, Meyer notes: curcumin is only effective when used continuously for at least 12 weeks, and is best combined with black pepper to increase absorption.

No replacement for a healthy lifestyle

Although it has many benefits, experts recommend that the above drinks should not be considered a treatment. Barmmer emphasized: The important thing is to clearly understand the dosage and quality of the product. The label "ginger" or "ginger" does not mean that there are enough active ingredients to promote the effect".

In other words, ginger, garlic or turmeric can support the immune system, but cannot replace a balanced diet, adequate sleep and regular exercise. Following online trends while ignoring scientific recommendations can make users have excessive expectations and disappointments.

In the context of increasing respiratory diseases, natural solutions such as ginger, garlic, turmeric can become a supplementary aid, but to protect long-term health, the only way is to maintain a healthy lifestyle and consult a medical professional.
