In the afternoon of July 28, Mr. Le Khac Phuc - Vice Chairman of Nam Ban Lam Ha Commune People's Committee (Lam Dong province) confirmed to a reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper that a suspected food poisoning incident had just occurred in the area, causing 84 people to be hospitalized for treatment.
According to the Lam Dong Department of Health, at about 9 am on July 27, the unit received information from the Nam Ban Lam Ha Commune Health Station about many patients being hospitalized from July 26 with symptoms of abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and diagnosed with bacterial intestinal infection, monitoring for food poisoning.
Immediately after that, the Department of Health directed the Sub-Department of Food Safety and Hygiene to establish a working group to come to the scene to investigate the incident.
Through initial verification, all patients had eaten bread bought at Minh Trung grilled meat - pate bread establishment (Hai Ba Trung village, Nam Ban Lam Ha commune) on the morning of July 25 and 26. According to the facility owner, about 110 loaves of bread were sold in these two days.
By 8 am on July 28, the health sector recorded 84 hospitalizations, including 39 people being treated at Nam Ban Lam Ha Commune Health Station, 8 people at Lam Ha Regional Medical Center and 37 people at Lam Dong Provincial General Hospital.
At 2 pm on the same day, there were still 37 patients being treated, including 7 people at Lam Ha Regional Medical Center and 30 people at Lam Dong Provincial General Hospital. Currently, the health of the patients has basically stabilized.
According to the Department of Health, the health of the patients is currently basically stable, and no severe cases have been recorded.
Nam Ban Lam Ha Commune People's Committee has made a record requesting the bread establishment to temporarily suspend business operations during the investigation and verification of the cause of the incident.
The working delegation of the Provincial Sub-Department of Food Safety and Hygiene received 7 food samples including grilled meat, pate, egg sauce, meat sauce, spring rolls, cucumbers and sour radishes to send to the Tay Nguyen Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology for testing, clarifying the cause of the suspected poisoning.
Currently, functional agencies are continuing to investigate and clarify the causes to strictly handle violations related to food safety and hygiene according to regulations.
