On the morning of May 30, 2025, the opening ceremony of the 13th Red Journey program - 2025 took place at the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion (Hanoi), officially launching the largest cross-border blood donation campaign in the country this year.
The Red Journey 2025 is organized in 48 provinces/cities. The program takes place over two months, from May 30 to July 30, with the goal of receiving at least 100,000 units of blood.
Along with the national opening ceremony, the "Red Journey Colors" blood donation festival is held with the message of calling on each person to become a "companion of love" in the journey "connecting the Vietnamese bloodline".
This year, 48 provinces/cities participated in the campaign, including many long-standing localities: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Lam Dong, Nghe An and Thanh Hoa, which have accompanied the entire 13 Red Journey seasons. Many other localities such as Can Tho, Binh Dinh, Dak Lak, Khanh Hoa, Lang Son, Tuyen Quang have also maintained the organization for 11-12 consecutive years.
Founded in 2013, in the context of a shortage of blood during the summer, the Red Journey is increasingly affirming its pioneering role in the voluntary blood donation movement. After 12 periods, the program has been organized in 59 provinces/cities, with more than 3,100 blood donation points, nearly 940,000 units of blood received. In 2024 alone, the campaign recorded a record of 128,119 units of blood from 51 provinces/cities participating.
Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Ha Thanh - Director of the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion affirmed: "The red journey has really become the largest and most effective blood donation campaign, the vivid symbol of patriotism and kindness. Each of the passing programs is lit up by the red - the red of human love and the desire to share for the community."
Speaking at the ceremony, Prof.Dr. Tran Van Thuan - Deputy Minister of Health, Deputy Head of the National Steering Committee of voluntary blood donation - acknowledged the persistent and inspiring steps of the blood donation movement during the past time. The Deputy Minister praised the great efforts and the continuous creativity of the National Institute of Hematology - Blood Transfusion, the main unit organized a red journey for more than a decade.
Deputy Minister Tran Van Thuan affirmed: The Red Journey is always a pioneering flame, a journey of faith and compassion. After 12 years of perseverance, the program has traveled through 59 provinces and cities, attracting millions of participants, contributing nearly a million valuable units of blood, helping hundreds of thousands of patients".
In 2024, the whole country received more than 1.7 million units of blood - the highest level in history. Over 98% of this blood comes from voluntary blood donors, a vivid testament to the humanitarian spirit, solidarity and community responsibility of the Vietnamese people.
The Deputy Minister particularly emphasized the role of the Red Journey is not only a medical campaign, but also a training environment for thousands of young people. The volunteers who are molded in this journey are "love messengers", continue to spread the fire of kindness on all roads of the country.
In order for the Red Journey 2025 to continue to spread strongly, the Deputy Minister suggested that localities promote communication, flexibly taking advantage of digital platforms to bring the image of blood donors closer to each community. At the same time, applying technology in blood management and coordination to ensure efficiency and transparency, especially in natural disasters and epidemics.
