According to the Khanh Hoa Provincial Center for Disease Control, since the beginning of the year, the whole province has recorded more than 5,540 cases of dengue fever, nearly 1,600 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease, 64 cases of malaria, 88 cases of measles and 153 cases of hepatitis B.
Compared to the same period last year, the number of dengue fever cases increased by more than 3.3 times, hand, foot and mouth disease increased by nearly 28%.
Malaria and hepatitis B in particular tend to decrease. Notably, Chikungunya - an emerging infectious disease - has not appeared in Khanh Hoa but is warned of a very high risk of invasion.
The reason is that the locality attracts a large number of domestic and foreign tourists, along with erratic weather developments that create conditions for disease-carrying mosquitoes to thrive.
The health sector explained that one of the reasons for the increase in cases is that a part of the population is still subjective and has not proactively killed mosquito larvae at home.
In addition, many cases of illness have arbitrarily purchased medicine for treatment, making treatment difficult when the disease becomes severe and complicating epidemic control.
Faced with the above situation, the Khanh Hoa health sector has implemented many proactive solutions to prevent and control the epidemic.
In particular, focusing on disease monitoring in the community, thoroughly handling outbreaks, proactively spraying chemicals and mobilizing forces to kill the disseminated langurs periodically.
On the other hand, the functional sector is also strengthening communication to advise people to regularly clean the environment, remove stagnant water containers, do not self-treat at home and need to go to medical facilities as soon as there are signs of illness.
