On April 3, Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee announced that it had a plan to implement the National Strategy on Nutrition for the period 2026 - 2030, with a vision to 2045.
According to the plan, Khanh Hoa province sets out 5 key target groups by 2030.
In which, focus on implementing a diverse and reasonable diet, ensuring food security for all ages according to the life cycle, especially high-risk groups and patients.
Along with that, the locality focuses on improving nutrition for mothers, children and adolescents; controlling overweight and obesity; preventing chronic non-communicable diseases and related risk factors in both children and adults.
Another important goal is to improve micronutrient deficiency in children, adolescents and women of reproductive age.
At the same time, improve nutritional response capacity in emergencies and strengthen resources to effectively implement the strategy.
Notably, the plan has set out specific targets for each target group. By 2030, the rate of children aged 6-23 months ensuring a proper diet will reach 80%; the rate of adults consuming enough vegetables and fruits daily will reach 70%.
In particular, the province sets a target to reduce the rate of stunting in children under 5 years old to below 8%; especially in mountainous areas below 23%.
The rate of overweight and obesity in children under 5 years old is controlled below 10%, of which urban areas are below 10% and rural areas are below 5%.
In addition, the average height of 18-year-olds is also expected to improve significantly, with an increase of 2 - 2.5cm for men and from 1.5 - 2cm for women.
The synchronous implementation of the above goals and targets is expected to contribute to improving the physical condition, stature and quality of life of Khanh Hoa people in the coming period.
