On the evening of November 11, the Central Lung Hospital held a press conference, providing information about 2 lung transplants in one day at the Hospital, mentioning Vietnam in the list of major lung transplant centers in the world.
According to Dr. and Senior Doctor Dinh Van Luong - Director of the Central Lung Hospital, in one day, the Central Lung Hospital coordinated with experts and hospitals: National Organ Transplant Coordination Center, E Hospital, University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital - National University, 108 Military Central Hospital, Cho Ray Hospital, Ba Ria General Hospital... to successfully perform 2 lung transplants for 2 patients. This is the first time in Vietnam that 2 lung transplants have been successfully performed in one day.
All lung transplants performed by the Central Lung Hospital were successful at the highest level according to the standards of the UCSF Lung Transplant Center - University of California, in San Francisco, the most prestigious Medical Center in the United States. The success of these 2 transplants has increased the total number of successful lung transplants of the Hospital to 9 cases, putting Vietnam on the list of major Lung Transplant Centers in the world.
"This event contributes to Vietnam's organ transplant achievements, a breakthrough in the country's medicine, affirming the synchronous capacity of the Central Lung Hospital and leading hospitals across the country. In particular, the coordination between leading experts in lung transplantation and the creative application of existing facilities in an effective manner have marked a remarkable step forward in the task of establishing a regional Lung Transplant Center at the Hospital" - Director of the Central Lung Hospital emphasized.
The first case was an emergency lung transplant. The female patient (48 years old, Hanoi) received lung organs from a male soldier (55 years old) who donated organs at the 108 Central Military Hospital. The surgery lasted more than 6 hours, starting at 9:15 p.m. on November 9, 2025.
Notably, the medical team of the Central Lung Hospital had to urgently fly from Can Tho to Hanoi, right during the VILA 2025 Scientific Conference, to be able to perform the transplant in time for the "golden time".

The second case was a "Xuyen Viet" lung transplant for a male patient (48 years old, Hai Phong) who received lung organs from a male patient (32 years old) who donated organs at Ba Ria General Hospital.
The lung organs were transported by Cho Ray Hospital to Ho Chi Minh City and continued to be transported by air to Hanoi. The surgery started at 9:00 p.m. on November 9, 2025, lasting 9 hours until the morning of November 10, 2025. This is the second "s well-off" lung transplant in Vietnam, performed continuously "all night", followed by the first.
Both cases have a history of complicated lung diseases (multi-urticored pharyngitis, COPD, many dangerous underlying diseases), have been monitored, waiting for lung transplants for a long time and are indicated for lung transplants. After surgery, both patients are receiving 24/7 post-operative care at the Lung Transplant Center, Central Lung Hospital.
In particular, the first case had an endotracheal tube removed and the patient breathed well with two new lung leaves. Although the second case was serious, the patient was developing in a favorable direction.

According to the Director of the Central Lung Hospital, this success affirms that the Central Lung Hospital, along with hospitals and leading experts in Vietnam, have completely mastered the process of 2 lung transplants in one day. This achievement contributes significantly to Vietnam's achievements in organ transplant techniques. Open the door of hope to save lives for thousands of patients that can only be saved by lung transplantation.
At the same time, it affirmed the comprehensive capacity of the Central Lung Hospital together with the Hospital and leading experts in Vietnam to take a long step forward in the task of establishing a regional Lung Transplant Center at the Hospital.
