Women's skin often changes according to their menstrual cycle, age and lifestyle. However, when symptoms such as acne persist, melasma, dry skin or dullness appear persistently, it can be a sign that the body is experiencing hormonal imbalance and reproductive health is affected.
According to Dr Chanchal Sharma - gynecologist and infertility expert Ayurveda, currently working at the Women's Health Care Center Vedica (India), the skin is one of the "early alarm organs" of the body. Horts often appear on the skin before women are aware of other gynecological problems, says Sharma.
When acne and melasma are no longer a small matter
Endocrinological acne often appears in the chin and jaw area and tends to recur periodically. If this condition persists, accompanied by dull skin or increased facial hair, women should not be subjective.
This can be a sign of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or an imbalance of estrogen and progesterone, says Dr. Sharma. High levels of androgen not only cause acne and thinning but also affect fertility if not intervened promptly, she said.
In addition, melasma and hyperpigmentation commonly found in pregnant women or the use of hormonal contraceptives also reflect strong changes in hormones in the body.
Skin treatment needs to be seen from the root
Many women tend to treat skin problems with cosmetics or external treatments. However, according to experts, this method is only temporary if the cause of hormones is not resolved.
Ayurveda and modern medicine all agree that skin health is closely linked to liver function, digestive system and hormone balance, Dr. Sharma analyzed. Therefore, lifestyle adjustment plays a key role.
Regarding nutrition, experts recommend increasing foods rich in vitamins A, C, E, zinc and omega-3 fatty acids such as fatty fish, flaxseeds, walnuts. In contrast, processed foods, high in sugar and unhealthy fats, can increase insulin levels, making endocrine disorders worse.
Prolonged stress is also a factor that is harmful to the skin. When stressed, the body secretes a lot of cortisol, a hormone that increases inflammation, causes acne and causes skin to age quickly. Activities such as walking, yoga, meditation help reduce stress and support natural hormone balance.
Getting 7 - 9 hours of sleep each night also helps the body regenerate skin cells and stabilize the endocrine system. Prolonged lack of sleep not only makes the skin less attractive but also affects long-term reproductive health.
According to experts, listening to changes in the skin is the way women proactively protect their hormonal and gynecological health, instead of just taking a passive care of their appearance.
