Prioritize whole grain bread
When choosing bread, carefully read the ingredient list to make sure the product is actually made from whole grains. Ideally, whole grains should be listed at the top of the ingredient list.
Choose low-sodium bread
Sodium content can vary significantly between bread types. If you want to help control blood pressure, you should prioritize products containing 140 milligrams of sodium or less per slice, especially for people who regularly eat bread.
Prioritize high-fiber bread
When comparing products, choose those with higher fiber content. Each slice of bread should provide at least 3 grams of fiber, contributing to supporting cardiovascular health and improving diet quality.
Limit added sugar
You should prioritize breads that do not contain or contain very little added sugar. Consuming too much sugar and refined carbohydrates can increase blood sugar, thereby adversely affecting blood pressure.
In addition to choosing the right bread, it should be combined with heart-healthy fat sources such as avocado, nut butter, tuna or salmon. These foods can help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and help meals be more balanced and nutritious.
