High liver enzymes: Rushing to drink "cool liver" can increase the burden on the liver

Increased liver enzymes are often detected through tests, but many people buy "liver coolant" to lower the index themselves.

According to Chinese experts, this treatment may cause patients to ignore the real cause, and even increase the burden on the liver.

Doctor Zhang Jingjing, Deputy Head of the Department of Liver Diseases, Medical Center No. 5, People's Liberation Army General Hospital of China, said that the liver is likened to a "silent organ", because diseases in the early stages often do not cause obvious symptoms. Therefore, it is not possible to judge whether the liver is healthy based on the fact that the body does not have abnormal manifestations.

Notably, experts warn that some people have a habit of using "liver protection drugs" or supplements even though liver function has not been identified as having problems. For people with normal liver function, arbitrary use of these products is not only not certain to bring benefits but can also increase the metabolic burden on the liver, even causing liver damage due to drugs.

High liver enzymes are not a specific disease. This may be a sign that liver cells are being damaged or the liver is being affected by various causes. In some cases, this condition is related to fatty liver, viral hepatitis, alcohol, drugs or metabolic diseases.

Liver experts also note that when detecting abnormal liver function, patients need to find the cause instead of just focusing on "hepatic enzyme reduction". With fatty liver disease, changing diet, increasing exercise and weight control are important measures. Patients should not arbitrarily use liver protection products or "hepatic cooling" tea.

In which, fatty liver related to metabolism is increasingly concerned. Overweight, obesity, lack of exercise, and a diet high in sugar and fat can increase the risk of fat accumulation in the liver. Experts say that without intervention, fatty liver can progress to hepatitis, cirrhosis, cirrhosis and even liver cancer in some people.

Besides, not drinking alcohol does not mean that you are definitely not infected with liver disease. According to Dr. Truong Tinh Tinh, non-alcoholic fatty liver, viral hepatitis and some autoimmune liver diseases can also occur in non-drinkers.

Therefore, when test results show increased liver enzymes, patients should talk to their doctor to assess related indicators and find the cause. Do not self-medicate with "liver cooling" drugs, liver tonics or herbal products based only on advertising.

Especially, if liver enzymes increase for a long time or are accompanied by symptoms such as jaundice, yellow eyes, prolonged fatigue, abdominal pain or tightness, patients need to be checked early. Proactive screening and monitoring of liver health is more important than waiting for symptoms to appear before going to the doctor.
