On April 13, Quang Binh Friendship Hospital (Quang Tri province) said that it had just received and handled a rare case when a patient was hooked deep into the top of his head with 3 hooks.
The patient is B.T. D (15 years old, residing in Dong Thuan ward) admitted to the hospital in a state of panic, severe pain, bleeding due to the hook piercing through the scalp. According to the story, while fishing with friends, due to not keeping a safe distance, the hook got caught in his head.
Doctor Nguyen Manh Thuong - Head of Surgery - Anesthesia and Resuscitation Department said that through examination, it was determined that the foreign object was stuck through the skin in the top of the head but did not affect the blood vessels and important nerves. Doctors performed local anesthesia, performed procedures to safely remove the hook. At the same time, the patient was recommended to be vaccinated against tetanus to prevent complications.
According to Dr. Thuong, accidents from hooks are often underestimated but pose a risk of infection and serious injury if they occur in dangerous locations, and may even leave scars and affect aesthetics.
Doctors recommend that people, especially children, when fishing, need to keep a safe distance, do not play with tools with hooks. When unfortunately encountering an incident, absolutely do not handle it at home but need to go to a medical facility for proper intervention, and at the same time clean the wound and get vaccinated according to instructions.
