On April 13, Vietnam Television (VTV) officially announced its position as the media copyright holder of FIFA World Cup 2026 in Vietnam, marking an important preparation step to bring the biggest football festival on the planet closer to domestic audiences.
According to the announcement, VTV holds a full media rights system, including television, radio, internet, mobile devices and public broadcast rights.
This means that Vietnamese audiences can follow all developments of FIFA World Cup 2026 through many flexible forms, from watching live on traditional television to modern digital platforms. This is considered a major step forward in meeting the increasingly diverse needs of viewers in the digital age.
The 2026 tournament will be the most special World Cup in history when it gathers 48 teams and will have 104 matches in 3 countries including the US, Canada and Mexico. This expanded scale promises to bring many surprises, drama and opportunities for teams around the world.
VTV's early announcement of the copyright also shows its proactiveness in accompanying FIFA to spread the heat of the tournament.
FIFA representative - Mr. Jean-Christophe Petit, expressed satisfaction with reaching an agreement with VTV, emphasizing that early preparation will help enhance the experience for viewers and fully convey the emotions that the World Cup brings.
Currently, more than 180 countries and territories own the copyright of this tournament, and VTV is the only representative in Vietnam to be included in that list.
On the television system, VTV is expected to broadcast live all 104 matches, including the opening and closing ceremonies and accompanying programs.
Channels like VTV3 are expected to play a key role in transmitting top matches, in addition to content distribution on other channels. In parallel, on the digital platform, VTV will provide live viewing, replay and on-demand content services, suitable for modern consumer habits.
Notably, VTV is also the only unit in Vietnam that holds public broadcasting rights, allowing the organization of fan zones, football watching events at restaurants, cinemas and public places. This will be a highlight to connect the fan community, especially young people, in the vibrant summer with the World Cup.
