Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Lan Hieu - Director of Hanoi Medical University Hospital - said: Most sudden deaths are related to cardiovascular diseases such as heart attack, arrhythmia, narrowing of the major arterial valve or enlarged heart disease; about 10-20% are due to stroke.
Professional arrest care is the key to recovering life. Even though there have been training courses on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), many cases still come to the hospital too late or receive emergency care incorrectly, he emphasized.
According to Associate Professor Hieu, the most important device to help save patients with arrhythmia - accounting for 80% of sudden death cases - is an automatic heart shock absorber (AED). Weighing less than 5kg, AED can restore normal heart rate in the first few minutes, increasing survival rate to 74% if used in the first 3 minutes after the victim stops heart failure.
Based on this urgent reality, on September 19, FPT Group and Hanoi Medical University Hospital announced their cooperation in implementing a project to place AED devices for the community for the first time in Vietnam.
FPT sponsored 2 billion VND to install equipment at commune and ward health stations of Da Nang City - a coastal tourism urban area that welcomes millions of visitors each year, but there is still a shortage of emergency cardiovascular emergency points. The project also comes with a medical staff training program, building a core group, opening a community first aid class and promoting cardiopulmonary emergency skills.
We can be compared to the world in medical technology, but lack the most basic equipment and skills to protect lives. With FPT's support, we hope the project will be expanded, bringing a safer and more civilized living environment, said Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Lan Hieu.
Representing the accompanying enterprise, Mr. Truong Gia Binh - Chairman of the Board of Directors of FPT - emphasized: "Health must be put first. AED machines are a practical means to contribute to saving people, in accordance with the spirit of Resolution 72-NQ/TW on strengthening protection, care and improving people's health".
With the cooperation of healthcare, businesses and the community, the project hopes to turn automatic heart shock devices into familiar "shields" in public spaces, improve life opportunities for people with sudden cardiac arrest and promote the culture and practice of first aid skills - citizen luggage in modern society.
