On October 22, the Vietnam - Cuba Dong Hoi Friendship Hospital (Quang Binh province) announced that it had just received a case of suspected poisoning due to eating Solanum procumbens.
The patient is an 8-year-old child residing in Ngan Thuy commune (Le Thuy district, Quang Binh province). The hospital admitted the patient in a deep coma with an irregular heartbeat.
Through medical history from family members, the child picked Solanum procumbens to eat when going to the forest. The family saw that the child had symptoms of fatigue, headache, and lethargy, so they took him to the hospital.
Although the doctors tried their best to save the child, his condition was too serious. The doctor diagnosed the child with respiratory and circulatory arrest and poisoning from Solanum procumbens.
Dr. Nguyen Van Hao - Head of Ngan Thuy Commune Health Station said that the child died after being brought home from the hospital by his family.
