On September 25, according to a report from the Kien Hai District Medical Center (Kien Giang), as of 6:00 a.m. this morning (September 25), a total of 23 students from Kien Hai Secondary and High School were hospitalized due to suspected food poisoning.
Immediately after receiving the news from the Department of Examination and Emergency Resuscitation that a number of students from Kien Hai Secondary and High School were hospitalized with symptoms of fever, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and vomiting, the District Health Center coordinated with the Hon Tre Commune Health Station to go to the Department of Examination and Emergency Resuscitation and Kien Hai Secondary and High School to investigate the suspected food poisoning case. At the same time, promptly report to the Department of Health, the Provincial Food Safety Branch, the District Party Committee, and the People's Committee of Kien Hai District.
The total number of students eating at the school cafeteria was 47. On the morning of September 23, the menu included 4 dishes: sweet and sour chicken rice, pork rib rice, crab noodle soup, and fish cake bread. At around 10pm on September 23, about 5 students were hospitalized with symptoms of high fever, stomachache, diarrhea, and vomiting. By 6am on September 25, the number of hospitalized students with the same symptoms increased to a total of 23. 8 students were transferred to the provincial hospital, while the remaining 15 students are hospitalized locally and in stable health condition.
The Kien Hai District Health Center's food poisoning investigation team worked with the school's Board of Directors and instructed the school to notify the homeroom teacher and family to take the student to the District Health Center for examination if the student showed signs of being unwell.
The case is still under investigation.
