The unspeakable disease
Dr. Dang Van Quan - Department of Surgery, Medlatec General Hospital - said that he had just examined and performed surgery on male student N.Q.D. (16 years old, in Hanoi).
According to the patient, although he had not had sex yet, he was very self-conscious about his “little guy”. After a long period of anxiety and worry, the male student decided to share and asked his father to take him to the hospital.
Through examination of the male genitals, the doctor found that the male student had a long foreskin, and his penis was bent to one side, and when erect, it was bent 45 degrees to the left. The doctor diagnosed the patient with penile curvature.
The patient then underwent penile curvature surgery and was discharged after 3 days of treatment.
According to Dr. Quan, normally, when there is sexual stimulation, the male penis will be erect along a straight axis. In some cases, the penis may deviate to one side or up or down. This is a normal physiological phenomenon, not much affecting the sexual activity of men.
However, if the penis is erect, the urethra is still in the correct position but the penis is bent to one side. In some cases, the penis is rotated and points downward. At this point, the man may have a curved penis.
The cause of penile curvature can be congenital or secondary to abnormalities in the healing process due to trauma, penile injury, excessive sex, external trauma, age, weight, bad habits (wearing underwear that is too tight, touching or bending the penis, masturbating a lot or side effects of medication.
The disease has many different levels. At a mild level, men do not feel any difference and can still have normal sexual activity. But at a severe level, men can feel uncomfortable, painful, and even unable to have sex.
Dr. Quan added that to treat the disease, the doctor will first take the patient's medical history and symptoms. Then, through penile ultrasound or injection of erectile stimulants to determine the curvature of the penis. From there, there will be an appropriate treatment method.
In cases where the penis is slightly curved under 15 degrees and the patient does not feel uncomfortable during intercourse, no treatment is needed.
Conversely, if the penis is curved more than 15 degrees and there is pain or difficulty during intercourse, the doctor will recommend surgery.
Men's diseases affect psychology and life
For men, any abnormality related to the genitals affects psychology and sexual life. And a curved penis is no exception. To prevent this risk from occurring, the following should be noted:
· Do not masturbate or have sex too violently;
· When having sex with your partner, you should choose positions that are comfortable and safe for both parties;
· Do not use harmful stimulants such as alcohol and tobacco;
· If the genital area is damaged, you should find a suitable solution to handle and treat it;
· If someone in your family has had a curved penis, you should have regular screenings to promptly handle any problems that may arise.
Doctor Quan recommends that if you feel uncomfortable or have pain when urinating and having sex, you should see a specialist for timely examination and diagnosis. You should absolutely not use any treatment drugs without a doctor's prescription. Especially folk remedies that are passed down by word of mouth and have no clear origin to avoid affecting your health.
