On June 19, information from Quang Tri Provincial General Hospital said that the unit's doctors had just coordinated emergency surgery successfully, regaining the life of a young man with particularly serious liver injury due to a work accident.
The patient is Mr. H.V.K. (25 years old, residing in Ben Quan commune, Quang Tri province), who was transferred to the Emergency Resuscitation Department in critical condition.
According to the patient's family, previously, while working at height, Mr. K. unfortunately fell from a height of about 4m to the ground because a tree branch suddenly broke.
During the fall, Mr. K. was pierced through the abdomen by a tree branch, causing very serious injuries, severe blood loss and falling into a state of unconsciousness. Immediately after discovering the incident, relatives took the victim to Ben Quan Commune Health Station for first aid, bandaging to stop the initial bleeding, and immediately transferred him straight to a provincial hospital.
At the time of admission, doctors recorded that the patient was in a state of shock reduced volume, blood pressure dropped deeply. Through examination, the area under the right rib of the patient had a penetrating abdominal wound that was bleeding profusely, accompanied by symptoms of chest tightness and headache.
The patient was immediately resuscitated by doctors and nurses to prevent shock, bandaged the wound to stop the bleeding and prescribed a full-body CT scan. The diagnostic imaging results showed that the patient had a reduced volume shock due to grade IV liver injury. This is an extremely dangerous injury, directly threatening life, so doctors quickly activated the procedure and prescribed emergency surgery.
During the abdominal opening surgery, the team of doctors recorded a very large amount of blood in the patient's abdomen. The surgical team proceeded to suction away thin blood mixed with blood clots to control the injured area. Abdominal exploration showed that the patient's liver parenchyma had ruptured.
Doctors had to perform the Pringle procedure to temporarily control blood flow to the liver, and at the same time discovered another complex lesion, which was a tear in the right liver vein and the right portal vein branch. The surgical team raced against time, skillfully suturing and stopping bleeding from the damaged blood vessels, treating the broken liver area and carefully checking the hemostasis condition before closing the abdomen.
Thanks to timely intervention, the complex surgery was successful. After more than 10 days of treatment and intensive care, patient H.V.K.'s health has had many positive changes, vital signs are completely stable and are continuing to be monitored at the hospital.
According to doctors, grade IV liver injury is one of the most severe lesions of solid organs, the risk of acute blood loss leading to death is very high if not diagnosed and treated properly.
The fact that family members proactively took them for initial first aid and the urgent and smooth coordination between specialties at provincial hospitals contributed decisively to saving the patient from passing through the gate of death.
