Dak Lak Health Sector Proactively activates response to Whitmore disease again

Dak Lak - The health sector has activated response measures to "flesh-eating bacteria" - Whitmore disease right after the locality recorded many infections.

On July 12, the Dak Lak Provincial Department of Health informed that immediately after recording 2 cases of "flesh-eating bacteria" (whitmore disease), the unit issued an official dispatch requesting medical facilities to quickly deploy disease prevention and control measures according to the instructions of the Ministry of Health.

Mr. Hoang Nguyen Duy - Deputy Director of the Dak Lak Provincial Department of Health said: "Due to the disease's diverse clinical manifestations and difficulty in diagnosis, when a suspected case appears, medical facilities need to organize specialized consultations, interdisciplinary, and even inter-hospital consultations to promptly diagnose and treat patients".

According to Mr. Duy, in this context, medical facilities need to prepare medicine, equipment, organize admission, patient emergency care, and intensive treatment to minimize deaths.

The grassroots health system needs to proactively detect cases of the disease early and implement thorough treatment to limit the spread in the community.

The Dak Lak Provincial Department of Health has assigned the Provincial Center for Disease Control to advise and organize working groups to inspect and supervise the prevention and control of Whitmore disease at hot spots. Thereby, promptly supporting the lower level in epidemic prevention and control.

Previously, Lao Dong Newspaper reported that Dak Lak province had just recorded 2 cases of infection with "flesh-eating bacteria" - Whitmore disease.

The first case is Mr. B.I.C (born in 1970, residing in Ea M'roh commune, Dak Lak province). The second patient is Mr. D.L.M (born in 1960, residing in Hoa Son commune, Dak Lak province).

Doctor H'Nuen hydok - Deputy Head of the Department of Infectious Diseases, Central Highlands General Hospital - confirmed that after receiving 2 patients with Whitmore disease, the unit has treated the patients according to the plan of the Ministry of Health. Currently, the health of both patients is stable.
