According to Dr. Jeff Winternheimer DC, although natural, unprocessed corn is very healthy, it loses nutrients during processing and affects our bodies in many ways that are directly related to lower back pain.
Dr Siddhant Bhargava, exercise and nutrition scientist and co-founder of health food nutrition company Food Darzee (India), said that corn has B vitamins and minerals as well as dietary fiber, which can be good for overall health when consumed in moderation. Whole corn also contains antioxidants that can help reduce oxidative stress in the body.
“If you want to include corn in your diet, make sure it is whole and unprocessed. Processed corn can cause an inflammatory response in the body, which can contribute significantly to pain, including lower back pain,” says Siddhant Bhargava, PhD.
Inflammation can also slow healing and aggravate conditions like lower back pain, according to Dr. Siddhant Bhargava.
Additionally, processed corn can cause a rapid spike in insulin levels, leading to inflammation and weight gain. Excess weight puts extra pressure on the spine, exacerbating lower back pain.
