Married for a long time but still without children, they were urged by both families so much that they went to the hospital for a check-up. She said the couple had been in a long-distance relationship for many years. After getting married, the couple did not have much time to be close, the husband had to return to Korea because of work. Only after a year of marriage did he return to Vietnam to live with his wife.
For nearly a year now, the couple has been having sex without using birth control but still have not had a baby. Both parents were so impatient that they had to keep urging them to go to the hospital for a check-up because they both believed that children are a gift from God, so they can have them at any time.
After examining and performing tests, the doctor concluded that Ms. MA did not have any serious problems, but her husband had low sperm count, poor mobility, and many deformities. This is the reason why even though the couple has regular sex, they still do not have children.
Doctor Ha Van Nguyen, An Viet Hospital's Reproductive Support Center, said that one of the common reasons for infertility in men is abnormal semen analysis. The number of men who come to the infertility clinic to encounter this condition is relatively common.
Abnormal sperm is a condition in which the sperm in a man's semen is greatly reduced in quantity, mobility and morphology compared to normal. If the number of malformed sperm in the semen is greater than the number of normal sperm, the risk of infertility in men is very high.
Doctor Ha Van Nguyen added that there are many causes and risk factors leading to abnormal sperm in men such as age, diet, use of stimulants such as alcohol, beer and especially tobacco, environmental pollution, some male diseases...
In modern life, with more risk factors, the rate of men experiencing abnormal sperm tends to increase. Deformed sperm, when examined under a microscope, will show abnormalities in the head and tail of the sperm or sperm in the form of immature and germ cells.
To treat abnormal sperm, the patient needs to be examined carefully and have necessary tests performed, especially semen analysis. Depending on the cause of the disease and the patient's condition, there will be specific treatment methods, said Dr. Ha Van Nguyen.
First of all, patients need to pay attention to their lifestyle such as maintaining a reasonable exercise regimen and limiting stimulants. Some cases require medication to treat if the cause comes from male diseases or endocrine disorders. Some cases require surgery such as varicocele that affects sperm quality, and surgery to find sperm in cases where sperm is not found in the semen sample. The choice of treatment method depends on the condition of each patient.
When there are unusual signs of puberty, genitals or abnormalities during obstetrics, you should see a specialist early for timely examination and treatment.
