Many end-line hospitals apply new medical prices

From 2026, many end-line hospitals will increase the prices of thousands of medical services due to the first time management costs are included in the price structure.

Medical examination and treatment service prices at many hospitals increase by about 4%

Deputy Minister of Health Le Duc Luan has just signed and issued decisions approving medical service prices at specialized hospitals managed by the ministry. In which, management costs are added to the price structure of medical examination and treatment.

According to the Ministry of Health, the new medical examination and treatment service price is built on the basis of three constituent factors including direct costs, labor costs and management costs. In which, labor costs are calculated according to the base salary of 2.34 million VND/month. The most notable new point is that management costs are for the first time included in the medical examination and treatment service price. The addition of management costs has caused the price of medical examination and treatment services at many hospitals to increase by about 4% compared to before.

Many central-level hospitals adjust medical examination and treatment prices

Central Military Hospital 108 is one of the first medical facilities approved by the Ministry of Health for medical examination and treatment prices under the new mechanism. Price list applies to services within the scope of payment of the Health Insurance Fund, services paid by the State budget and ordinary medical examination and treatment services that are not subject to on-demand medical examination and treatment.

According to the decision of the Ministry of Health, hospital service prices are divided into 5 groups including: Medical examination and consultation prices; treatment bed day prices; technical and laboratory service prices; technical service prices performed by insensitive methods, anesthesia and diagnostic imaging service prices.

However, some expenses have not yet been included in the service price. For techniques performed by insensitivity and anesthesia, the service price does not include drug and oxygen costs. These expenses will be paid based on actual use. Similarly, for diagnostic imaging services using image storage and transmission systems (PACS), the current price does not include the investment cost of the PACS system as well as film printing and film packaging costs.

At Viet Duc Friendship Hospital, the additional calculation of management costs also caused the prices of many medical examination and treatment services to be adjusted upwards. According to the new price list, the normal medical examination fee is 52,600 VND/visit. The cost of inviting experts to consult on difficult disease cases is regulated at 208,000 VND/visit.

For periodic health check-ups, occupational health check-ups, medical examination services or certificates of injury, the price is 166,400 VND/time. Health check-ups for people going to work abroad are priced at 468,000 VND/time.

The daily price of treatment beds has also changed significantly. The highest level applied to patients undergoing intensive care, organ transplantation, bone marrow transplantation or stem cell transplantation is up to more than 1 million VND/day. All types of emergency resuscitation beds, internal medicine beds and surgery beds after surgery are adjusted according to the new price frame.

In addition, thousands of technical services, tests and diagnostic imaging are also updated. Many regular ultrasound services cost about 61,000 VND/time, while specialized techniques such as Doppler cardiovascular ultrasound or intensive cardiac ultrasound have significantly higher prices. In the diagnostic imaging group, the price of regular X-rays is regulated from tens of thousands of VND to over 80,000 VND depending on the survey location.

K Hospital is also in the group of central-level hospitals applying the new price mechanism. According to regulations, patients who have been hospitalized for inpatient treatment or are receiving outpatient treatment before the decisions take effect will continue to apply the old price until the end of the treatment or discharge. The adjustment of medical service prices at central-level hospitals is considered the next step in the roadmap for health financial reform.
