Increase patient reception capacity
On June 1st, facility 2 of the National Children's Hospital in Kieu Phu commune (Hanoi) officially went into operation. The project is built on an area of nearly 6ha, with a total investment of more than 880 billion VND. In the first phase, the facility has only 300 beds, 11 clinical departments and the ability to receive 1,000 - 1,500 outpatient visits per day. Facility 2 is expected to reduce the burden on the main facility, expand access to high-quality medical services for children and improve the capacity of the national pediatric system.
Prof. Dr. Tran Minh Dien, Director of the National Children's Hospital, said that putting facility 2 into operation stems from practical needs when the number of pediatric patients coming for examination and treatment has continuously increased over the years. Although many solutions have been implemented to expand and improve reception capacity, the main facility still regularly faces overload pressure.

Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan emphasized that putting facility 2 into operation not only creates more favorable conditions for people to access high-quality medical services but also contributes to reducing the burden on central-level hospitals. The Minister requested the hospital to ensure the quality of medical examination and treatment at the new facility is equivalent, even higher than the main facility, maximizing the advantages of facilities, modern equipment and experienced human resources.
With a convenient location at the western gateway of Hanoi, facility 2 is expected to become an important pediatric examination and treatment center, serving not only the people of the Capital but also the provinces of the Northwest region in the near future.
Facility 2 of Bach Mai Hospital and Viet Duc Friendship Hospital must also operate in June. Next, facility 2 of the Central Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital is expected to operate from August.
Over the past month, Deputy Minister of Health Le Duc Luan has chaired 6 meetings and directly inspected the site to remove obstacles and urge the progress of facility 2 of Bach Mai Hospital and Viet Duc Friendship Hospital. The Ministry of Health requests units to focus maximum resources, accelerate the construction of remaining items, complete licensing procedures, and strive to put both hospitals into operation in the second quarter of 2026.
According to the Ministry of Health, financial and payment problems have basically been resolved. Currently, units are focusing on completing the remaining items, especially the fire prevention and fighting system, environmental treatment and licensing procedures.
The 2nd facility of the Central Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital in Kieu Phu commune, Hanoi has been basically completed and is completing legal procedures to put it into operation.
According to Prof. Dr. Nguyen Duy Anh, Director of the Central Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, the new facility will contribute to reducing the burden on existing facilities, creating conditions for the development of specialized techniques thanks to spacious infrastructure and modern equipment systems, including 8 operating rooms, diagnostic imaging systems, MRI, ultrasound and many new equipment produced in 2025. The hospital also aims to deploy robot-assisted surgery.
When fully operational, the new facilities will significantly increase the number of beds, operating rooms and specialized treatment areas, helping to share the pressure with the main facilities that are always overloaded.
Reduced sharing beds, prolonged waiting
Putting facilities 2 into operation is expected to help reduce the density of patients gathering at one location, shorten waiting times for examination, reduce pressure on the medical staff and improve treatment quality.
For specialties that are always overloaded such as pediatrics, obstetrics, emergency resuscitation or surgery, the increase in treatment facilities will create conditions for patients to access medical services quickly and conveniently.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Xuan Co, Director of Bach Mai Hospital, said that the hospital identifies two facilities in Hanoi and Ninh Binh operating as a unified system, with the same quality standards. The effectiveness of facility 2 will be measured by patient satisfaction. With synchronous investment in human resources and facilities, Bach Mai Hospital facility 2 is expected to become a high-quality medical examination and treatment center of the region.

Not only solving the overload problem, facilities 2 also contribute to expanding the network of providing high-tech medical services. People in neighboring provinces can access leading experts, modern equipment systems and many in-depth techniques without necessarily having to move to the city center.
