The number of measles cases treated at the Vietnam Friendship Hospital - Cuba Dong Hoi is increasing sharply, causing many children to be hospitalized, even mechanical ventilation due to serious complications.
According to statistics from the beginning of 2025 to now, 275 measles children have been treated in the Pediatrics Department, Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Hospital. Particularly in March recorded 126 cases, while only the first 10 days of April had more than 80 new cases. On average, the Pediatric Faculty receives 45-50 measles or suspected measles for measles.
Currently, the hospital has not had specific tests to identify measles, but the sample test results of suspected cases showed a very high positive rate. Notably, most children have not been injected or not injected with measles vaccine.
According to the Vietnam -Cuba Friendship Hospital, the number of hospitalized cases increased sharply, causing the unit to reserve a pediatric treatment area to receive measles patients. Some children are severely progressive, complicated pneumonia must breathe. At one point, Khoa had to borrow more beds and machines to meet treatment.
Measles is a dangerous infectious disease, easily causing complications on the organs. With respiratory system, measles can cause pneumonia, laryngitis, leading to respiratory failure. With the digestive system, the disease can cause prolonged bowel and diarrhea. More severe, measles can cause bacterial infections, encephalitis, immunodeficiency - making children more likely to be superinfected and death if not intervened in time.
Typical signs of measles include: prolonged high fever, cough, runny nose, conjunctivitis, floating erythema from the face to the foot. Therefore, doctors recommend that parents need to take their children to be fully vaccinated as recommended by the Ministry of Health, especially children under the age of vaccination or have poor resistance.
Along with that, parents need to actively avoid the child exposed to the source, limit to crowded places, wear masks when necessary, enhance nutrition and personal hygiene for children.
Facing the complicated epidemic situation, the People's Committee of Quang Binh province has implemented the measles vaccination campaign in the whole province in 2025. The goal of the campaign is to increase the community immune rate, reduce the incidence and death of measles. Priority objects are children from 6 months to under 9 months of age in high -risk areas.
