Health of victims hit by falling trees in Ho Chi Minh City

HCMC - The girl who was hit by a falling tree in District 1 was diagnosed with multiple injuries, a collapsed lung, and a fracture of the lower third of her right radius.

Regarding the incident of a tree at the intersection of Mac Dinh Chi - Nguyen Dinh Chieu (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City) falling and injuring many people, on the afternoon of October 8, Children's Hospital 2 informed that a 6-year-old female patient was admitted to the hospital with pale lips and a fracture of the lower third of the radius bone of her right forearm after being crushed by a fallen tree.

Currently, the patient is on high-parameter mechanical ventilation, high-dose vasopressor, vital signs are unstable, anti-shock treatment and blood product transfusion are continuing.

Ultrasound examination showed a large amount of right pleural effusion, heterogeneous structure of the upper pole of the spleen, subcapsular effusion, monitoring for splenic injury. The patient also had subcapsular effusion of the liver. A large amount of ascites with echoes, monitoring for hemoperitoneum.

The patient had to have a chest drain and was treated in bed, with green fluid mixed with blood. Doctors diagnosed the patient with traumatic shock, multiple injuries due to a traffic accident (tree crush), liver injury, spleen injury, lung contusion, right pleural effusion, and fracture of the lower third of the right radius.

The hospital-wide consultation results indicated that the child needed exploratory chest and abdominal surgery to assess the problem of hollow organ perforation and stop the bleeding.

In addition, information from Saigon General Hospital said that the male patient (47 years old) was diagnosed with a closed fracture of the left acromion and high blood pressure. Currently, the patient is stable, conscious and asked to be discharged from the hospital.

The 45-year-old female patient was diagnosed with multiple injuries, liver segment VI laceration and contusion, rib fractures 4-12 with a small amount of left pleural effusion. The patient's health is stable, conscious, and has been transferred to People's Hospital 115 for intensive treatment.

As reported by Lao Dong Newspaper, at around 7:00 p.m. on October 7, many people living near the intersection of Mac Dinh Chi and Nguyen Dinh Chieu heard a loud noise.

Upon checking, people discovered a star apple tree at the intersection of Mac Dinh Chi - Nguyen Dinh Chieu, District 1 had fallen and hit many people.
