When he felt tired and his limbs were out of strength, Mr. Duy was admitted to the hospital and discovered that he had adrenal insufficiency and metabolic disorders due to abusing drugs of unknown origin.
Not only is gout getting worse, but the use of immediate pain relievers of unknown origin also causes my adrenal insufficiency. Therefore, my skin loses elasticity, so even a slight impact can easily cause bruises on my hands and feet," the male patient said.
Lying on the hospital bed with atrophied legs, Mr. Duy regretted: "Through this incident, I learned a lesson that you should only follow the doctor's instructions. Don't listen to recommendations or buy drugs rampant online and then seriously affect your health like I do now.
You shouldn't "be a doctor yourself
Talking about this case, MSc.BS Tran Quoc Khanh - Department of Musculoskeletal, Thanh Nhan Hospital (Hanoi) said that this is a patient with a long history of gout but did not go to medical facilities for periodic health check-ups.
This patient arbitrarily used pain relievers, anti-inflammatory drugs, especially products containing corticosteroids for a long time. This led to chronic gout combined with adrenal insufficiency, metabolic disorders in muscles, bones, joints,... causing the patient to have muscle atrophy, round face, stretch marks on the skin," MSc. Dr. Tran Quoc Khanh analyzed.
Also according to doctors, the situation of gout patients arbitrarily buying medicine in the style of "oral transmission" or listening to social networks is very common in Vietnam today. The use of drugs of unknown origin helps cut pain very quickly, causing patients to mistakenly believe that they have recovered.
However, each patient, each case has completely different characteristics. Treatment needs to be individualized. With the same type of disease, each person will be at a different stage, requiring a separate regimen.
MSc. Dr. Tran Quoc Khanh recommends: "When people have health problems, they should go to medical facilities for specialized examination. Absolutely do not "become a doctor on their own", do not listen to advice or rely on online search results to buy medicine. All types of medicine have main and side effects, if there is no supervision from doctors, the consequences of liver failure and kidney failure are very regrettable".
