The Department of Plastic Surgery - Bacrosurgery, 108 Central Military Hospital has just received a serious work accident: a 51-year-old female patient was admitted to the hospital with all of her scalp, from the eyelids to the back of her neck, due to long hair caught in a paper rolling machine cord while working.
MSc Luu Phuong Lan, Faculty of Surgery - Microsurgery said that this is one of the extremely heavy lesions, with the area of a large skull, the scalp area is not intact, so it is impossible to perform microscopic surgery techniques. Facing this situation, the therapeutic team has planned the scalp regeneration plan by using the extended skin flap from the back. The flap is up to 10 x 41 cm in size, rotates 180 degrees to cover the lesions from the right occipital to the left top - where the skull is exposed.
Due to the large area of damage, doctors had to remove a large amount of thin skin from both thighs for additional transplantation. The surgical process encountered many difficulties in fixing the graft skin and keeping the patient's posture stable, avoiding cramps in the shaping area. In addition, post-operative resuscitation plays an important role such as: blood transfusion, dichament compensation, pain control and improved nutrition to help wounds heal quickly.
Currently, the patient's health is stable, he can sit up and walk.
Doctors warn that work accidents caused by hair entangled in machinery are a huge risk, especially for women working in a production environment. It is mandatory to tie hair neatly, wear protective hats and strictly comply with regulations on labor safety.
The doctors recommend that, after the accident, besides the bleeding for the patient, it is necessary to collect the entire break and properly preserved: Wash with clean water gently sand, dirty, then wrap in gauze, damp fabric (do not directly contact with cold ice) and wrap in closed plastic bags for storage in tanks or cold ice bags (ideal temperature 4-5 ° C). Patients and the breakup should be taken immediately to the hospital with a specialized surgery - microsurgical surgery for treatment.
