On September 20, information from the Office of Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee said that the province has approved a non-refundable aid of 500 million VND from the Social Assistance Program for Vietnam (SAP-VN) to support heart surgery for children with congenital heart disease at Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital.
According to the approved content, about 20-30 children aged 16 and under with congenital heart disease will be supported with the cost of open-heart surgery and/or cardiac intervention remaining after being covered by health insurance. The maximum support level is 50 million VND for each heart surgery or intervention.
The program prioritizes children from poor households, near-poor households, ethnic minority children and children in remote and isolated areas.
The aid is fully funded by SAP-VN Organization, with no counterpart funds. The program is implemented at Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital, lasting until June 20, 2028.
Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee assigned Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital to coordinate with sponsors and related units to implement the program, ensuring that support funds are used publicly, transparently, for the right purpose and reach the right beneficiaries.
Social Assistance Program for Vietnam (SAP-VN) is a non-profit, non-governmental humanitarian organization, established in 1992, headquartered in California (USA). The organization mainly operates in the fields of health, education and social welfare, aiming to support the poor and people with disabilities in Vietnam.
Since 2012, SAP-VN has implemented a program to support congenital heart surgery for children in Vietnam, initially in An Giang, then expanded to Quang Nam and some other localities. In addition to heart surgery, the organization also implements orthopedic surgery programs, free medical examination and treatment, and support for students in difficult circumstances.
