On February 15, the Ia Pa District Medical Center, Gia Lai Province, announced that the locality had just recorded a death from rabies.
The victim was Mr. K (born in 1979, Plei Kdam village, Ia Knam commune). According to the family, before the incident, Mr. K was bitten by a dog on his right index finger while trying to catch his family dog to chain. The minor wound was bleeding, but Mr. K did not treat it or get vaccinated with rabies vaccine and serum. The family's dog later died on its own and was eaten by the family.
On the morning of February 14, Mr. K began to have symptoms of body aches, chills, fear of water, fear of wind, poor appetite and was taken by relatives to Ia Pa District Medical Center for treatment.
He was then transferred to Gia Lai General Hospital, where the doctor diagnosed him with rabies. After doctors at Gia Lai General Hospital explained the patient's condition, the family asked to take Mr. K home for convenient care.
At around 3:00 a.m. on February 15, Mr. K died at home.
Previously, on February 13, the Gia Lai Provincial Center for Disease Control confirmed that there had just been a death from rabies in Ha Tay commune, Chu Pah district. The victim was Mr. N (born in 1966, residing in Kon So Lang village, Ha Tay commune).
