Recently, Children's Hospital 2 received and treated male patient T.T.T (12 years old, Ninh Thuan province) with dengue shock syndrome.
Before that, the child had a fever and was treated at home for 2 days. The family examined the child at a clinic near his home, was diagnosed with sore throat, and took medicine for 3 days but did not improve. When younger, they are more tired, have increased abdominal pain, vomit, and loose stools several times, accompanied by a runny nose.
Family members took the child to a front-line hospital in a state of shock, blood pressure, platelets 5-6 times lower than normal, liver enzymes increased 5 times higher than normal, rapid pulse, and blood pressure. The patient was actively treated for shock absorption but the clinical conditions have not been met. The child was more tired, had high blood pressure and was transferred to Children's Hospital 2.
Here, doctors and nurses admitted the child in a state of respiratory failure. The child was supported with oxygen and given high-molecular fluids.
Doctor Do Chau Viet - Head of the Department of Intensive Care and Infectious Diseases, Children's Hospital 2 said that this patient has a history of asthma and is a child overweight and obese. Since the beginning of the year, the department has received many overweight children with underlying diseases.

Previously, the City Children's Hospital treated female patient C.T (9 years old, Ben Tre province) with a diagnosis of severe dengue shock on the 4th day, blood clotting disorder, gastrointestinal bleeding, liver damage, and severe respiratory failure.
According to the latest statistics from the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control (HCDC), in week 18 (April 28 - April 4), the city had 196 cases of dengue fever, down 34.2% compared to the average of the previous 4 weeks.

Signs of worsening dengue fever
Doctor Chau Viet noted that at this time, it is preparing to enter the period of heavy rain, which is likely to increase dengue fever. Early signs of the disease include a sudden high fever, accompanied by symptoms of headache, loss of appetite, nausea, bloating, muscle pain, joint pain, eye branch pain, skin and mucous membranes, etc.
Because the disease can change quickly and cause dangerous complications, as soon as the child shows signs of getting worse, parents should take the child to the hospital for examination as soon as possible.
Warning signs of worsening the disease that parents need to pay attention to include children struggling, dizziness, lethargy; severe and continuous abdominal pain or increased pain, especially in the right lower rib; vomiting many times within 1 hour or 4 times within 6 hours
In addition, there are signs of mucosal hemorrhage such as bleeding tooth and nose, vomiting, vaginal bleeding or diarrhea; liver larger than 2 cm below the ribs; small urine; cold, moist limbs; bloating skin; tired breathing.

Doctor Nguyen Minh Tien - Deputy Director of the City Children's Hospital recommends that dengue fever currently still attacks children as well as adults. Parents need to pay attention to implementing disease prevention measures such as killing mosquitoes, mosquito larvae, sleeping on the stomach...
The Ho Chi Minh City health sector has increased monitoring, investigation and handling of dengue fever and outbreak cases, while strictly controlling high-risk points. Local health units are directed to thoroughly handle risk areas. People can report risk points through the online Health application for timely handling.
