The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety has just issued a document requesting the People's Committees of wards (Gia Dinh ward, Binh Quoi ward, Binh Thanh ward, Thanh My Tay ward, Binh Loi Trung ward) to proactively establish working groups with personnel to ensure professional expertise to carry out inspection and supervision of food safety, food poisoning prevention and control for schools and units in the area that receive industrial meals related to Huu Phuoc Production and Transportation Service Trading Co., Ltd.
At the same time, the Department requests to strengthen propaganda, dissemination, and legal education on contents related to ensuring food safety and preventing and combating food poisoning at collective kitchens in the area.
Previously, as Lao Dong Newspaper reported, after a process of investigation according to procedures, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety concluded that the incident that occurred at Binh Quoi Tay Primary School (Binh Quoi ward) on April 7 was a food poisoning case.
Regarding the cause, epidemiological and statistical analysis results show that most food samples have phenomenon of cross-contamination, in which flan and cabbage soup cooked with meat are the foods at highest risk.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety determined that the cause was the Branch of Huu Phuoc Trading and Service Production Transportation Co., Ltd., the unit providing ready-to-eat meals for Binh Quoi Tay Primary School.
At the end of April, a case of 46 cases with suspected food poisoning symptoms also occurred in the city at Dang Thuy Tram Elementary School (Tan Thuan ward). The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety has established an investigation team, coordinating with local authorities, the health sector and the school to handle the case according to regulations.
