On February 3, Thien Hanh General Hospital (Dak Lak province) said that the unit had just saved a premature baby (29 weeks old) with a ruptured stomach due to congenital stomach muscle defect, weighing only 1,200 grams at birth.
Previously, on December 10, 2025, a baby boy permanently residing in Ea Drong commune was born at Thien Hanh General Hospital due to his mother's premature ruptured amniotic fluid, horizontal position.
However, after 25 hours of age, the child's condition suddenly worsened, with signs of rapid abdominal distension, respiratory failure, and cyanosis.
Immediately, doctors of the Department of Pediatrics proceeded with emergency treatment, endotracheal intubation, and intensive shock resuscitation.
During the surgery, the team recorded that the child had a stomach rupture due to congenital stomach muscle defects with a tear line about 5 cm long. The tear was sewn back, the abdominal cavity was cleaned and closed the abdominal wall. Each operation required absolute accuracy to preserve the life of the premature, underweight patient.
After nearly 8 weeks of continuous treatment, the child was saved, gradually overcoming the critical stage, growing well and stably.
According to doctors, this is an extremely complex and rare case, with a high mortality rate if not detected early and treated promptly.
