Up to now, authorities have not yet determined the cause of the hospitalization of a series of students in Thai Nguyen, one of whom died.
On the afternoon of September 4, the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management (Ministry of Health) sent an urgent dispatch to the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases and the National Children's Hospital regarding support and coordination in finding the cause of a number of cases of students from Thai Nguyen Industrial College being hospitalized for treatment.
Dr. Nguyen Trong Khoa, Deputy Director of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management, said that through press information, the Department learned that from August 29 to September 2, 2024, about 13 students of Thai Nguyen Industrial College showed symptoms of fever, headache, stomachache, vomiting, etc. and came to Thai Nguyen Central General Hospital for examination and treatment; there was one serious case that asked to go home and died at home.
To promptly determine the cause, provide timely treatment and minimize deaths, the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment recommends:
The National Hospital for Tropical Diseases and the National Children's Hospital coordinate with the Thai Nguyen Central General Hospital and the Thai Nguyen Provincial Department of Health to urgently find the cause of the disease, propose treatment measures, and control infections in medical facilities and at Thai Nguyen Industrial College (if any) to minimize the number of cases and deaths. If necessary, the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases and the National Children's Hospital are requested to send a working group to work directly in Thai Nguyen province.
Thai Nguyen Central General Hospital and Thai Nguyen Provincial Department of Health coordinated to provide medical records, related documents and implemented measures together with the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases and the National Children's Hospital to implement treatment plans for patients.
Previously, as Lao Dong reported, in the past 4 days, many students living in the same dormitory at Thai Nguyen Industrial College showed symptoms of fever and headache and were taken to Thai Nguyen Central General Hospital for treatment.
Among them, the most serious case was VMC (born in 2008, residing in Sung Tra commune, Meo Vac, Ha Giang), a student of the K57 Intermediate Electricity class, who was hospitalized on August 29 and died on August 31.
More than 10 other cases, all students at Thai Nguyen Industrial College, were also hospitalized with fever symptoms of unknown cause.
Through rapid influenza A/B testing, all children were negative, no abnormal images were seen on X-ray films, other tests have not yet had results, currently the children's health is stable and they are receiving active treatment.
