At the scientific conference " applying some advances in early diagnosis and treatment of colorectal cancer" organized by the Vietnam Interventional Endoscopy Association (VIGES) in collaboration with Hung Vuong Phu Tho General Hospital on April 12, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Cong Long - Chairman of VIGES said that colorectal cancer is currently one of the serious health threats in Vietnam. According to statistics from the International Agency for Research on Cancer (Globocan) in 2022, the country recorded 16,835 new cases and 8,454 deaths, ranking 4th in terms of incidence rate and 5th in terms of mortality rate among common cancers. Worryingly, the disease is trending younger.
"However, if detected early through screening measures such as colunar endoscopy or blood testing hidden in stool, the possibility of treatment for elimination is very high, contributing to improving the quality of life and reducing the medical burden", Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Cong Long emphasized.
At this conference, experts presented modern endoscopic technologies such as extended endoscopy, blue light endoscopy (BLI), combined with color stripe (LCI), and screening tests for early detection of colorectal cancer. These advances not only improve the accuracy of diagnosis but also help people proactively examine promptly.
Dr. Le Quang Nhan - Vice President of VIGES Association - directly implements and applies modern technologies to diagnose and eliminate cancer damage early by submucosal cutting techniques. This is an advanced technique that helps remove cancer damage early without open surgery, less invasiveness, shortens hospital stay and saves treatment costs.
Mr. Nguyen Huu Hoc - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hung Vuong General Hospital shared: This conference not only helps improve the professional qualifications of the hospital's medical team, but also clearly demonstrates the commitment to professional quality in health care for people, especially in the field of digestion and endoscopy.
For example, previously, modern technology to diagnose and remove cancer damage early by submucosal cutting techniques was mainly deployed at a number of central hospitals, but has now been transferred to lower-level facilities such as Hung Vuong Hospital.
Currently, the application of advanced diagnostic and treatment techniques to bring people in lower-level hospitals is being expanded.
