Vietnam is making efforts to narrow the gap in oral care, from urban to rural areas, from plains to mountains and islands.

Vietnam's goal is not only to reduce tooth decay, periodontitis or complications, but also to ensure that all people have the opportunity to access modern, fair and safe dental services.

That is the speech of Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Tri Thuc at the International Dental and Dental Exhibition (VIDEC 2025) taking place from August 21 to 22, organized by the Vietnam Dental and Dental Association in coordination with the World Dental Federation (FDI), Hanoi Central Dental and Dental Hospital and Ho Chi Minh City Central Dental and Dental Hospital.

According to the Deputy Minister of Health, the current practice of oral diseases requires the Vietnamese dental and maxillofacial industry to take strategic steps, catch up with the development trend of science and technology, and at the same time meet the requirements of increasingly deep international integration.

" more importantly, we must thoroughly grasp the spirit of: shifting the focus from treatment to prevention, taking the ward as the root, taking primary care as the key" - said the Deputy Minister.

The Deputy Minister suggested that the Vietnam Dentistry Association, training, research facilities and specialized hospitals focus on developing a comprehensive school dental program to protect the young generation from preschool and primary school.

He emphasized that this is not only a professional task, but also an implementation of the strategic requirement of shifting from treatment to disease prevention, to make oral care a cultural habit, a healthy lifestyle of Vietnamese people.

In addition, priority is given to research and practical application, focusing on common diseases such as tooth decay, periodontology, and jaw socio-economic disorders. At the same time, develop in-depth techniques for treatment of maxillofacial teeth such as implementations, orthopedic surgery and cosmetic restoration...

Focus on developing high-quality human resources

The Deputy Minister of Health said that the dental and maxillofacial industry needs to focus on training and developing high-quality human resources, especially the young generation of doctors and dentists; building a fair, modern and humane dental service system, ensuring that all people, from urban to rural areas, remote areas, and remote areas, enjoy scientific advances.

"We need to encourage the development of private healthcare in the dental and maxillofacial industry in the spirit of Resolution No. 68 of the Politburo, considering this an important force in investing in equipment, implementing high technology and providing quality services.

The support of the private sector, under the unified management of the State, will create a diverse, dynamic and sustainable dental ecosystem, contributing to reducing the burden on public health and expanding dental care opportunities for the entire population", Deputy Minister Nguyen Tri Thuc said.
