Shooting in New Zealand is like a shooting game: "Parents, stop being indifferent!"

Thảo Anh |

Psychologists say that many parents simply think that the image of blood in the digital world is only in the virtual world, but it is becoming a behavioral model, affecting the personality formation process of their children.

On March 15, a horrific shooting that killed 49 people occurred at two Hoiist churches in central and outlying Christchurch, New Zealand.

The murder case was livestreamed by the murderer Brentont Tarrant, making many people immediately think of activities similar to role-playing shooting games, such as the Pubg game.

In particular, before getting out of the car to go to the church, the murderer called on everyone to "register to Pewdiepie's channel" - the YouTuber with the most subscribers in the world (about 89 million people) - and was also a professional gamer.

The slander of terrorist Tarrant when dragging the name Pewdiepie just to attract attention. However, many people cannot help but worry about the impact of shooting and violent games on the nerves and personality of players.

Dr. Tran Thanh Nam - lecturer specializing in Clinical Psychology for children and adolescents, University of Education, Vietnam National University, Hanoi has had warning analysis on this issue.

Sir, how does addiction to violent games and shooting leave consequences for the nerves and personality of players?

- People who are addicted to games, especially violent games, will be affected in the frontal nervous system function. The frontal area has the function of controlling, checking and controlling information. That is, when addicted to games, players will be inhibited, our high-level neurological activity decreases, causing them to tend to use sudden behaviors.

In addition, violent games will be recognized and rewarded with points. for that individual's victory. From there, they feel happy and normal with violent activities in games.

That individual no longer reacted emotionally to the image of bloodthirsty on violent games, and had more cold-blooded behavior.

So, in your opinion, are violent games a decisive factor affecting children's personality?

- Playing violent games puts children in a state of extreme extreme, related to the orientation of personal values. However, it is not necessarily the deciding factor.

Because they may also have other mental trauma, or have an unhealthy outlook on society, they tend to play violent games and convert those violent values into their own values.

The consequences of gaming addiction are sometimes too dependent to the point of being confused, not being able to distinguish between the real world. Notably, in a scientific study, in Vietnam, children are accessing games that are much older.

We simply think that the image of blood and tears is only in the virtual world, but it is becoming a pattern of behavior. It makes our children normalise all acts of violence in the real world.

These phenomena further affirm the subjectivity of many parents in raising their children.

So, please advise parents how to control their children's playing games to avoid dangerous consequences?

- Parents need to control and prevent their children's behavior from the time they are in the control corridor. Most games have game codeboards for specific ages.

For example, games with E meaning Everyone, T meaning Teen age or M meaning adults.

We need to clearly understand what games our children play, what their symbols are, and if they are suitable for their age? Are there any risks to those games? The best way to manage first is to rely on game code.

The most important thing is to spend time getting close to and talking with your child. At the same time, clearly stipulate the playing time within the permitted limits.

Thank you!
