Ms. Nguyen Thi Khuyet, 68 years old (Chuong Duong commune, Hanoi) is struggling to make a living every day to take care of her daughter with many illnesses.

The simple house that has seriously degraded is where Ms. Nguyen Thi Khuyet (born in 1957) and her daughter Nguyen Thi Khuyen (born in 1982) have depended on each other for many years. Old age, illness and poverty make the life of the mother and child always in a state of being struggling to pat the shoulders, lacking in front and in the back...

Her husband has been deceased for more than 30 years, and Ms. Khuyet raised her two children alone in poverty. The eldest son was married and moved out to live separately, and life was not abundant; the youngest daughter, due to a persistent illness, did not get married and lived with her elderly mother. Since then, the mother and daughter have depended on each other to make ends meet.

"My child is constantly ill. I have many diseases such as uterine fibroids, cardiovascular disease, back pain, vestibular pain... There are days when I get so much pain, it is only lying in one place, I can't eat or drink," Ms. Khuyet said choking up.

Ms. Khuyet herself also has many diseases of old age. bone and joint pain, dizziness, and fatigue make work increasingly difficult. Previously, when she had the strength, she worked in the fields, gardening, picking up scrap metal or selling vegetables at the market to earn extra income. Now she is old, weak, and has no job, and there are months when she has almost no income.

The main source of income for the mother and child is currently mainly based on the 700,000 VND/month subsidy for Ms. Khuyen. Ms. Khuyet does not have a pension and is not eligible for social allowances. That small amount of money is only enough to buy rice, vegetables and medicine in moderation.

"There are days when I can't sell anything, can't pick up scrap metal, the mother and daughter only eat rice and vegetables. Seeing my child in pain without money to take him to the hospital for treatment, I was very hurt. I was afraid that one day I would no longer be strong, so I would know who to rely on...", Ms. Khuyet sadly shared.

According to Ms. Khuyet, since her husband passed away, both relatives are poor and have few conditions to support. The life of the mother and daughter is mainly self-sufficient, when sick, they can only endure...

Talking to Lao Dong reporter, Mr. Le Dinh Chuong - Head of Team 3, Vinh Loc Village, Chuong Duong Commune (Hanoi) - said that the situation of Ms. Khuyet and Ms. Khuyen is a long-term difficult situation, and everyone in the village cares and understands.

"This is a very poor family, both mother and child are sick and have no stable source of income. I really hope that organizations and philanthropists will join hands to help Ms. Khuyet and her children have better living conditions, especially in treatment, said Mr. Chuong.
