Unfilling spaces
In a dilapidated small house in Xeo Cao Hamlet, Thanh Xuan Commune, Can Tho City (formerly Thanh Xuan Commune, Chau Thanh A District, Hau Giang Province), Ngan and her 70-year-old grandfather are living together day by day.
Orphaned since she was 11 months old, in Ngan's memory, her grandparents seem to be the closest relatives.

The pain of losing her mother at a very young age left an un filling void in this student's heart. Without photos, Ngan only knew that her mother's ashes were placed in the pagoda.
"I can only imagine what happened to you through the story of your grandparents. As for him, I have not heard any news. Even though he left me, I still hope to meet him so that I can know his roots with my grandfather, Ngan choked up.
However, fate seems to have not left him, when his grandmother passed away from illness during the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, I am left with only an old and weak grandfather, sick, and having to struggle with many worries.
"My grandparents and I went to isolation, but because she had diabetes, the condition became serious and she died in the hospital. Afraid that I would be sad and unable to contain my emotions, my grandfather hid it until a week later to tell me, Ngan recalled.
The determination of a poor student
Growing up with the love of her grandparents, Ngan took the shortcomings and difficulties in life as motivation to continuously study and achieve good results. Every year, this student receives a certificate of merit. Notably, in the recent high school graduation exam, Ngan registered for the C00 combination, with the results of 3 subjects reaching 26.75 points.
The university door seems to be wide open with good results, but the question "where to get money to study" is constantly surrounding the mind of the young student.

Now, Ngan can only save up on monthly orphan allowances. "I have registered all my university admission wishes, but I may not be able to go to school anymore. I am very worried about my future, Ngan burst into tears.
Hearing her grandchild confide, Mr. Nguyen Hung Linh (M Ngan's grandfather) could not help but feel heartbroken. At the age of 70, Mr. Linh has many diseases, high blood pressure, diabetes, and arrhythmia. His right hand had 2 stented arteries so he could not lift an object over 5 kg. His eyes are no longer bright, the right CSU has been replaced, the left has just had a cartical surgery for about 3 months now.
Mr. Linh now can only helplessly watch his niece cherish her dream of going to university without being able to help. His small salary is just enough to cover daily medicines..., the economic burden is constantly weighing on the thin shoulders of veterans.
Feeling sorry for his grandchild and wife, Mr. Linh said sadly: "If the incident did not happen, the family income would be enough to cover all of my grandchild's university studies. But when she passed away, the family's economy fell into difficulties, and I was sad and also suffered from many illnesses."
Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Tu - Ngan's homeroom teacher at Tam Vu High School - said that Ngan is the most disadvantaged student in the class, but she tries very hard to study, is loved by everyone for her gentleness, sociability, and active participation in movements. To facilitate him, the school always prioritizes whenever there is a scholarship. The teachers in the school really hope Ngan will be helped to continue studying, because she deserves to overcome the constant difficulties over the years.
