In a small rented room in hamlet 1, Thanh Loi commune, Tay Ninh province, Ms. Truong Thi Kim Tuyen and her husband live in a state of shortage. No house, no production land, valuable assets are almost non-existent, the family's life depends only on the construction worker's wages for her husband.
The biggest upheaval came when their son, baby Than Gia Thinh (born September 30, 2025), was diagnosed with congenital biliary atrophy leading to cirrhosis. Since the disease was discovered, the baby has been regularly hospitalized for treatment, and his health has been increasingly deteriorating.
According to the doctors' instructions, Gia Thinh needs to have a liver transplant in the near future to have a chance to maintain his life. However, the estimated cost is no less than 300 million VND. This is a figure that exceeds Ms. Tuyen's family's ability.
To take care of her children, Ms. Tuyen quit her job. All economic burdens fell on the shoulders of her husband, who worked as a construction worker with unstable income. Ms. Tuyen's biological mother sold lottery tickets every day, and when she had time, she helped take care of her grandchildren to alleviate the difficulties for her children.
Currently, Ms. Tuyen is assessed by doctors as a person capable of donating a liver to her child. However, due to rapid heartbeat, she still has to continue to monitor her health and wait for sufficient conditions to perform the transplant.
Since my child got sick, my husband and I have only hoped that our child will have the opportunity to have a liver transplant. Even if we borrow money everywhere, it is not enough for treatment. We only hope our child is healthy to grow up like other children," Ms. Tuyen shared.
Local authorities confirmed that Ms. Truong Thi Kim Tuyen's family is in difficult circumstances. The family has lived in a rented room for many years, without accumulated assets. Before quitting her job to take care of her children, Ms. Tuyen worked as a sales staff, while her husband worked as a construction worker with unstable income.
The locality said it will continue to coordinate with organizations and philanthropists to mobilize resources to support the family in the treatment process for baby Gia Thinh. However, with the very large cost of liver transplantation, the family really needs the joint help from the community so that the baby has more opportunities to be saved.
