Giving support from Lao Dong readers to elderly grandparents raising disabled granddaughter

PHƯƠNG ANH |

Can Tho - Lao Dong Newspaper readers supported more than 7.6 million VND to help the elderly couple raise their disabled granddaughter.

On June 13, representatives of the Golden Heart Charity Fund of Lao Dong Newspaper visited and presented the amount of 7,612,660 VND donated by readers to the family of Mr. Ly Tai and Mrs. Thach Thi Suol, residing in Xay Da A hamlet (Ho Dac Kien commune, Can Tho city).

This is the amount of money readers of Lao Dong Newspaper supported for the situation reflected in the article: "LD26054: Older grandparents still strain themselves to take care of disabled granddaughter" that Lao Dong Newspaper published earlier.

Receiving the support money, Ms. Thach Thi Suol emotionally sent her thanks to the Tam Long Vang Lao Dong Charity Social Fund and readers near and far for their concern and sharing with the family's situation.

Ms. Suol said that her family is currently facing many difficulties when her husband suffered a stroke and his health declined. The family's main source of income depends on a small sugarcane juice cart selling next to Tra Quyt Moi pagoda. Every day, she only earns about 50,000 VND to cover living expenses for the whole family.

The couple also has to take care of their 40-year-old daughter who is in difficult circumstances and their 8-year-old granddaughter who is congenitally disabled. Since childhood, the child has frequently had seizures, completely lost the ability to take care of herself and all daily activities depend on relatives. According to the family, the child's mother is also not mentally smart, so taking care of and raising her child is difficult. Both of her children have no father due to misfortune.

The support money from Lao Dong Newspaper readers is a great source of encouragement for the family in difficult times. We will use it to take care of life, medicine for the child and buy a stroller to be able to take the child to the sugarcane juice selling place, both making a living and conveniently taking care of him," Ms. Suol shared.

Ms. Vo Thi Giao Linh - Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the commune, Chairwoman of the Women's Union of Ho Dac Kien commune (Can Tho City) - said that the support of the Golden Heart Charity Fund and readers has contributed to helping the family alleviate difficulties, have more conditions to take care of the sick child, and stabilize their lives.
