Carlos Alcaraz announced on social media that he will part ways with long-time coach Juan Carlos Ferrero, who has accompanied and contributed greatly to bringing the Spaniard to the pinnacle of men's tennis after more than 7 years of cooperation.
Under Ferrero's leadership, Alcaraz has won a total of six Grand Slam titles, including two Roland Garros championships, two Wimbledon and two US Opens. The 22-year-old also has 24 ATP titles, including eight Masters 1000 titles. This year's tournament is considered the most successful season in Alcaraz's career, when he led the ATP Tour with 71 wins and won eight titles.
"After more than seven years together, Juanki and I have decided to end our journey together. Thank you for making my childhood dream come true.
We started this journey when I was very young, and over the past time, he has accompanied me on a wonderful journey, both on and off the pitch. I enjoyed every moment of working with him" - Alcaraz wrote.
Under the leadership of Juan Carlos Ferrero, Alcaraz has become the youngest player in history to rise to the world No. 1 on the ATP rankings, after winning the 2022 US Open at the age of just 19.
Ferrero also posted a farewell message on social media without specifically mentioning the reason for the two sides' suspension of cooperation.
"Today is a difficult day. One of those days it's hard to find the right words. Saying goodbye has never been easy, especially when behind you are many common memories" - Ferrero shared.
Ferrero started leading Alcaraz when he was just 15 years old and has been with him throughout his professional career. Recently, Ferrero and Samuel Lopez - who will join Alcaraz's coaching staff in 2025 - were named ATP Coach of the Year. Ferrero previously received the award in 2022.
